What Qualities to Look For in a New Team Member
15th December 2014 by Grace Bullingham
When looking for a new team member to join your company, what qualities do you look for? Do you think futuristically? This is the most intelligent way of hiring – you can always teach your employees and pass on the relevant information required. This challenges the traditional ‘it’s what you know’ statement; this does not necessarily ring true in today’s modern world.
Regardless of industry, salary, gender or age; ideal employees should possess the same traits. These include the following;
Impulsive – hire employees who take chances, they will generate new ideas.
Ambitious – If employees want to grow and strive to get the best out of their abilities, they can only do so by helping your company – they will want to be the very best, what can go wrong!?
Leadership - Do you see this person being an important part of the company and overseeing other employees in the future?
Positive – Employees who come into work energetic everyday are more likely to keep up the positive office atmosphere! This means everyone is happy and more ideas will be generated!
Strong work Ethic – is this person a self-starter that will do whatever it takes to succeed?
Passionate – It may sounds obvious but is the person passionate about what they do? If they are this means their work ethic will be stronger and they will be able to transfer that energy into their work.
Communicates Constructively - It’s important for team members to speak up and express their thoughts. It’s also important that they do this respectively, directly and honestly.
Caring – Working in any role, you need your employees to care. Working closely with people -colleagues or clients involves you to build relationships. If this person doesn’t care it will definitely show.
All of the above are important qualities to have as an employee. By possessing some of these traits will ensure your newest employee will become part of your existing team. Do you look for something specific when making your newest recruit? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
