I want to be a recruiter

Probably not the words that you shouted at your career advisor when you were in Secondary School... Your parents wanted you to be something respectable. Something safe. A banker. Maybe an accountant or even a dentist. You on the other hand wanted to be a stunt man, a footballer, deep sea explorer... But never a recruiter?

Like many recruiters 'fell into the industry' after being asked; 'Ever thought of a role in recruitment?' My answer was as probably expected 'no'....

It was a real eye opener to hear how people actually found jobs and went about furthering their career. My background was apparently perfect for a role in recruitment. I was told by my recruitment consultant at the time that in order to succeed you need to be 'resilient, hardworking, not afraid of rejection, organised and highly personable' I like to think that I hold all these qualities, and to this day, some 7 years after starting in the world of recruitment I still strive to hold onto these traits.

Working in recruitment does to some people hold a stigma. It’s like telling your nearest and dearest that you are an estate agent. Or worse still... a used car salesman. It’s a shame as over the years I have been in the industry I have actually been surprised at how many great recruiters there are out there (and some terrible ones too)... The idea of clanging a bell when you close a deal, snapping your red braces and reclining in your black leather chair ‘Gordon Gekko’ style still bring a shudder to my spine. I’m pleased to say that working within Creative Recruitment couldn’t be further than this stereotype.

Coming to work dressed in jeans and a shirt with my coffee in hand and then being greeted with a warm smile from our front of house team is a great way to start the day. Twist; like many creative recruitment agencies model themselves on their clients. Clients like to deal with likeminded people. People who understand them not just as a business but as people. Working within Creative Recruitment is frankly refreshing and highly rewarding.

Twist are hiring at the moment. After 3.5 years in the industry (but with a combined 55 years’ worth of experience between our team) we are continuing to expand. Setting the benchmark in terms of client and candidate satisfaction Twist’s goal is simple. Be the best within our sector.
