How a business can use social media to engage with new clients

Social media is the modern world’s new religion.

By this I mean our stories are stored and shared for many to see, we worship our screens and we preach our lives through the different variety of platforms available.

The best and most efficient way to communicate with one another, but do we really use it for the right reasons?

Here at Twist we love seeing what everyone is getting up to - who doesn’t love to be in the know. The brilliant thing is that we have the technology to do so but we shouldn’t forget we also have the means to communicate.

The fast pace of a technology driven world has allowed for many to lose sight in the array of positive attributes social media can bring to a business. It isn’t just a money making machine.

Conversation is the key to not only creating lasting business with clients and potential candidates but it is also a great way of expressing the ethos of a company. This blog is my way of creating a conversation, to show the inside of a recruitment company to the outside world. What you see with Twist, is what you get.

1) We want to show you our personality
Our office is buzzing with personality, we really are an infectious bunch, not only from all over the country but from all over the world… But how are you supposed to know this? Social media is how.

Twist wants to create a voice for you to hear and relate to. We want to be the only company you consider because you feel confident with the people you are dealing with.

This doesn’t mean have a laugh a minute but do it when needed. If you see something you like then nine times out of ten you are onto a winner. We don’t want to be the only winners though, it’s our job to make you the real winner whether that be finding the right person for the job or getting you the job of your dreams. You want it we will get it.

2) Polite and Kind
No one gets anywhere being nasty in this world. Sooner or later the carpet will be pulled from underneath your feet but by treating those how you wish to be treated, you can’t go wrong.

It has never been so easy to engage with people nowadays through social media. Did you just get a retweet? Thank that person! Strike up a conversation… A conversation can lead to a million opportunities.

Reply to all the comments you receive, ignoring a person on Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn could mean ignoring some great business.

When Twist place candidates we like to send out cookies to congratulate them and keep a lasting relationship going… Something nice to get their new careers off on the right foot.

3)  Avoid standard messages
The worst thing any company could do is be repetitive. Be professional but be engaging. At Twist we like to personally reply to everyone with a little message, especially if they have any questions. We want them to know they can come to us and know they will get an original response.

We like to respond, we want you to know we want to know you. Never be scared of getting in touch, we are always waiting to hear from you.


As a business it can be quite intimidating communicating with a lot of different people, especially through social media. Not only is it the first step to creating business it's essential to create meanginful business as in the recruitment world without a good relationship it's very easy to be taken out of the picture and replaced. Conversation now tells your consumers that you care and the one thing we know that everyone wants is to know that they are needed. Without social media your business is missing the vital pillar to really getting off the ground running.
