From one side of the world to the other: Being an Office Support recruiter!

From one side of the world to the other: Being an Office Support recruiter!

“Welcome to LonDON” is what I said to my friends as we disembarked the plane. Fresh of the “boat”, bright eyed and bushy tailed, or just up for an incredible life experience. I have come to London from New Zealand in search of the opportunities that this beautiful metropolitan has to offer. Which has led me here; to Twist or Stick.

Having arrived in London late last year I have been extremely lucky – I have a beautiful flat in East London, some great friends (I could probably do with a few more who are British!) and now most recently I have been given the opportunity to head up the Office Support Division at Twist or Stick.

My background is exactly that, I have been a Receptionist at a Production Company, I have been a Studio Manager, a PA, a Team Assistant... The list goes on! And now I have the absolute pleasure of recruiting for those kinds of roles within Creative, Digital and Design Agencies.

There is a massive gap in the market for this kind of recruitment, which I consider a massive oversight! It is these kinds of roles which essentially are the crucks to every agency. Some may say “behind every great man, is a woman”, but I live by my analogy: “behind every great agency, is an operations manager, studio manager, HR Advisor, Receptionist, Administrator, Accounts Assistant, Personal Assistant, etc”.

To be good you need certain attributes, what I bring to the table is honesty, collaboration and most importantly quality. My Mum’s favourite saying is “expectations breed frustrations”. This is recruitment to a tee – thanks Mum. I like to manage expectations, both client and candidate side. It is really important in order to understand what makes people tick and what someone is truly looking for in a job or in a candidate. I'm the definition of a match maker to the recruitment world!

The best thing is that I'm here for the long haul – lucky enough to have an ancestry visa! My goal is to become a familiar name, face and consultant around Twist as well as the Office Support recruitment world here in London. If you want to get in touch, please do email me (Jamie@twistorstick.co.uk) and bring on the Rugby World Cup 2015!
